Since 2000, when NAFODU was formed, the organization has made a number of achievements through its human rights and democracy promotion programs. Among the main achievements are:

FUNDED A NUMBER OF LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS AND ASSOCIATIONS

Over 750 Community Based Organizations and Associations have been supported in Uganda with small grants in the range of $500-5000. These grants have been used to implement small-scale Human Rights, democracy and good governance, peace, freedom of expression and safety of journalists as well as women and youth Projects. Projects supported with grants from NAFODU are used for Capacity Building (Training in human rights, training Journalists in safety and security) Empowering Women and Youth, fundraising and resource mobilization, Building Networks, advocacy and other activities that support the Mission of the Foundation

ESTABLISHMENT OF A NETWORK OF VOLUNTEERS

NAFODU has managed to develop, harness and maintain an effective network of volunteers in southwestern Uganda and maintain a presence in all parishes, Sub-Counties, constituencies, and districts across South Western Uganda. The volunteers work for the advancement of human rights in their communities in southwestern Uganda.

PROMOTING HUMAN RIGHTS AND DEMOCRACY

With support from National Endowment for Democracy, NAFODU has managed to conduct civic education, human rights and democracy initiatives at the local community level in the districts of southwestern Uganda.

CORRUPTION AWARENESS AND PREVENTION

With support from the Partnership for Transparency Fund, NAFODU Completed a project for corruption awareness and prevention in Uganda through 48 weekly interactive radio broadcasts. The program was called “Gwanisa oburi bwenguzi” – “Fight Corruption”.

TRAINING OF NAFODU VOLUNTEERS IN HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION, MONITORING, AND ADVOCACY

Training NAFODU Volunteers in Human Rights Education, Monitoring, and Advocacy With support from Haella Foundation, NAFODU trained 60 volunteers in human rights Education, monitoring and advocacy. The volunteers were drawn from 20 Sub-Counties of Kabale District.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON DEMOCRACY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE.

With Support from CIDA, NAFODU organized an International conference entitled “The State of Democracy and Good Governance in Developing Commonwealth Countries Today” from May 28-29th, 2008 in Kabale, southwestern Uganda. The conference attracted participants from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Nigeria.

ROUNDTABLE DIALOGUE ON CHALLENGES OF POLITICAL PARTIES

On March 16, 2007, NAFODU organized a roundtable “challenges of political parties and their impact on democratization in Uganda today and the way forward”. The roundtable took place at Hotel Home Again in Kabale and attracted political party leaders and members of civil society groups.

CIVIL CONFLICT RESOLUTION TRAINING WORKSHOPS

NAFODU in September 2008, conducted training workshops on civil conflict resolution in five districts of S. Western Uganda that is Kabale, Kisoro, Ntungamo, Rukungiri, and Kanungu. Over forty people were trained where they were evenly represented by different sub-counties of different districts, the workshops lasted for two days.

ROUNDTABLE DIALOGUE ON GENDER EQUALITY

In November 2008, NAFODU organized a roundtable on gender equality which attracted over fifty(50) Women from five districts of South Western Uganda.
